Michigan Lawyer and Judge Born in San Hill, N.Y. in 1814, Halmer Hull Emmons studied law, becoming a partner in the law firm of his father, A. Emmons & Son. They were established in Detroit in 1840, but by 1853, Emmons was partially retired from active practice due to health problems. He settled on a farm at the junction of the Detroit and Ecorse rivers. Emmons was appointed United States Circuit Judge by President Grant in 1870 for Mich., Oh., Ky., and Tenn. He died...
